It’s so strange to think that this time last year I was preparing to leave for university. It’s an understatement to say I was pretty nervous about the whole thing, and I wasn’t really sure how best to prepare for this major life-change. Over the next eight weeks or so I’ll be helping all you new students through the process of preparing, packing and moving away to university in my Freshers’ Guide. It’s designed so can have the best start to your uni career as possible! At the end of each post there’ll be a piece of downloadable material to help support you in your preparations, so be sure to stick around. First up, I’m breaking down the weeks between getting your results and place at university to moving into your accommodation or starting your classes, if you’re choosing to stay at home. There’s a lot to do in what is a relatively short space of time, so it’s good to have some idea in advance of what to expect, so you can best prepare.

Thankfully G had booked train tickets some weeks ago to come up to visit me that weekend; whilst I knew my illness would prevent the perfect weekend I’d had planned his visit really couldn’t have come at a better time.

In some ways it feels like it’s been forever since we all moved in, and in others, I don’t seem to have stopped since arriving. It won’t be long before this way of living is totally ordinary, but for now I’m enjoying the newness of everything.

Wednesday 7th October So Freshers’ Week is over and already I’m three days into lectures, seminars and workshops. Now that I’ve finally found a spare moment I’m taking the opportunity to look back on last week – a non-stop whirlwind of new people, hallway pyjama parties and the odd jägerbomb or two (sorry Mum!)…

Monday 28th September 2015 Even though it was just yesterday, move-in day is already a complete blur –and it has nothing to do with alcohol. Something about the way in which my life was completely overhauled in the space of about twelve hours has meant that I’m still processing the day. With that in mind, rather than give a full account of everything that happened I’ve put together my top-tips for move-in day for future freshers.
