The name came to me in the dark, a little ironically. I don’t know where from, but I know it’s here to stay. Meet – or perhaps get newly acquainted with – this blog: Lightly We Go.
Like I said on Saturday, I’ve been keen to re-name my blog for a long time. life, et cetera was so ambiguous, so all-encompassing, that it didn’t really say anything at all. What’s more, now that my site has become much more clear in its focus and aims, I wanted a name which represented its new direction and it audience.
Both my first and middle names hold similar meanings. ‘Lucy’ comes from the Latin Lucius which means ‘as of light’ whilst ‘Ellen’, my second name, derives from the Greek for ‘light’ and bright’. When trying to work out my blog’s new name I was keen to include the word ‘light’ as a way of anchoring it to me, albeit indirectly. I played around with student light, live light, living the light and so on, but nothing entirely clicked until I realised that this blog is about so much more than just me.
For some people, their blog is an extension of themselves: a journal, a creative outlet. But I want my blog to be something beyond myself. When I stumbled upon the name, tripping between go lightly and we go lightly until I realised I just needed to shift the word order), I suddenly understood that pointing a blog in a specific direction almost means giving it a mind of its own. This blog wants to go places, and help show others the way there too. What’s more, it holds within it a call to action, a request to join together and take part in something.
So, welcome! Lightly We Go is collaborative, existing to engage and support a student-based readership. It wants to go with its audience on new journeys, whether they include physical travel or personal development, and it wants those trips to be sunny, joyous, and bright. Will you come with us?
